At the heart of the Filipino American Society’s mission is a commitment to providing support and resources for Filipino Americans across Iowa. We recognize that every journey is unique and each person’s needs may differ. Our organization offers:

  • Translation services

  • Transportation

  • Seasonally appropriate clothing

  • Limited basic household necessities

  • Document Notarization

We also partner with organizations across Iowa to connect you with additional resources and specialized support. For more information, please visit our Useful Links page or contact us for personalized assistance.

Translation Services

Our volunteer translators cover multiple dialects from the Philippines and have supported the community in a wide range of situations — from medical and legal appointments to personal and business needs. Over the years, we’ve dedicated hundreds of hours assisting Filipinos across Iowa, ensuring that language is never a barrier to understanding or opportunity.

We’re here to support you every step of the way, and we’ll work with you until you feel confident and informed.

Languages and dialects we can translate include:

  • Tagalog

  • Ilocano

  • Bisaya

  • Cebuano

  • Other dialects available upon request

If you need translation services, please contact us or call us at (515) 661-4925 and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Transportation Services

We understand that getting around after arriving in Iowa can be challenging, especially if you don’t yet have your own means of transportation. Whether it’s attending appointments, getting essential errands done, or settling into your new home, we’re here to help.

Our team can assist with:

  • Local transportation within the Des Moines metro area for appointments or other essential visits

  • Coordinating larger transportation needs, such as moving bulky items

To request assistance, please call or text us at (515) 661-4925. We kindly ask that transportation requests be limited to appointments and other required visits.

Currently, transportation support is available only within the Des Moines metro area. If you’re located outside of this area, email us, and we’ll help connect you with transportation resources near your location.

Clothing & Household Goods

Adjusting to Iowa’s seasons can be challenging, especially if you’ve recently moved from the Philippines. Thanks to generous community donations, we are able to provide seasonally appropriate clothing — such as coats, sweaters, and other essentials — to help you stay comfortable year-round. We also periodically receive activewear and other items to meet a variety of needs.

In addition, our donation network often provides basic household items, including beds, microwaves, rice cookers, and other essentials. These items are available on a first-come, first-served basis and depend on current availability.

If you are in need of clothing or household essentials, please contact us and let us know how we can help. We’ll do our best to accommodate your request and connect you with what you need.

Notary Services

Our volunteer notaries are here to make the process of notarizing your documents simple and accessible. Whether you need help with legal paperwork, affidavits, or other official documents, we have multiple notaries available and we can even travel to you when needed.

Notary services are always free of charge, though donations are gratefully accepted to help us continue supporting the community.

To schedule a notary appointment, please contact us or call (515) 661-4925.
